Andrea Hooper

Deputy Principal, Opunake High School

I arrived here on the back of a motorbike having travelled overland from the UK in 2001.  Since then I have worked at Opunake High School, in Taradise/Taranaki and am currently the Deputy Principal in charge of Senior School.  I have loved representing APs and DPs on NASDAP, a role I started in early 2019.  Qualified in Biochemistry from Dundee University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Cardiff University, I have been fortunate enough to teach in Wales, England, Switzerland, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.  Life before teaching involved jobs in the health sector, environmental expeditions, hospitality. To ensure all students have access to a safe, diverse, student centred learning experience where resilience is built, learning conversations had, and opportunities given, is my goal for the tamariki of Aotearoa.  Opunake is now my home, and home to my husband: Tony, my two children: Charlie, Cade, the dog, cat, chickens, and fish.
